Flash memory manufacturer SanDisk has begun to produce small quantities of a 12-gigabyte microSDHC card, which it is shipping to phone manufacturers for testing. This marks the largest microSDHC card yet designed, a substantial increase from the 8 GB cards currently available, and not far behind the 16 GB capacity of full-size SDHC cards.
The company offered no indication when it plans to mass-market the card, nor what price it may ask. Last year's release of the 8 GB microSDHC card saw sampling to manufacturers in June followed by retail availability in October, a delay of four months. If that holds steady, the 12 GB card may be available around May.
