Safety Benchmarking Now Offered by Robotic Industries Association

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, August 23, 2006 - A new safety benchmarking exercise is now available during RIA's National Robot Safety Conference XVIII, October 2-5, 2006, in the greater Cincinnati area at the Drawbridge Inn in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.

Expert review and comment is offered at the benchmarking session. Robot users can present particular needs or design concerns to specialists from companies that belong to Robotic Industries Association and the Association's committee that writes the national robot safety standard. As the official secretariat for the American National Standards Institute, RIA develops the ANSI/RIA R15.06 Robot Safety Standard.

Jeff Fryman, Director, Standards Development, RIA, urges users to take advantage of the unique chance to get specialized training at the National Robot Safety Conference.

"Bring your problem and present it to a small group of experts for peer review," he advises. "Our benchmarking session is designed to let you work with a team of robot users toward a solution on a particular issue."

Other parts of the program cover how to comply with robot and machine tool standards from ANSI, an important OSHA consideration. Emphasis is placed on new developments in ISO and other industry guidelines. There is a course for beginners to help them understand robotics, and a Conference highlight is tabletop exhibits from leading safety and robotics companies from around the world.

"We cover OSHA topics with presentations straight from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and we have special breakout sessions to address specific needs like controls, risk management and how to choose the right safety devices," says Fryman.

Early bird registration is available through August 28. RIA expects some 150 people to participate in the Conference. The full agenda, including a list of exhibitors and registration forms, is at www.roboticsonline.com, or contact RIA at 734/994-6088.
