Alpha Version Now Available on SUSE Gallery for Customers and Community to Test

NUREMBERG -- SUSE announced today it has released an early development snapshot of its OpenStack*-powered cloud infrastructure solution. SUSE Cloud powered by OpenStack, is the industry's first, fully configured, OpenStack-powered appliance based on OpenStack's latest version, Diablo. It is also the first public preview of SUSE's hypervisor agnostic, operating system neutral, open source cloud infrastructure solution. Now available for free on SUSE® Gallery, this early release offers customers and partners a glimpse into how quick and easy it can be to build, deploy and manage both private and public cloud infrastructure. By using cloud solutions from SUSE, organizations can improve resource utilization and business agility while also reducing risk.

"We have successfully commercialized enterprise-quality open source software for 20 years. Today we help more than 13,000 customers run their business more efficiently and cost effectively on SUSE Linux Enterprise along with our technical support that is recognized in independent studies as the best Linux* support in the industry," said Nils Brauckmann, president and general manager, SUSE. "What we have done with SUSE Linux Enterprise, we will now do for OpenStack-powered cloud infrastructure."

Based on OpenStack's interrelated cloud computing platform components, SUSE's cloud infrastructure solution runs on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and leverages existing and proven tools such as SUSE Studio and SUSE Manager. The integration of SUSE tools, platform and OpenStack, coupled with SUSE's extensive experience delivering enterprise-class, open source solutions, removes many of the complex, cost-prohibitive and risky issues associated with cloud computing.

"Building a cloud solution today with OpenStack components is not a trivial task," said Gary Chen, research manager, Cloud and Virtualization System Software, IDC. "SUSE has made building open source private clouds easier with its new Diablo image and it's encouraging to see SUSE as an OpenStack member working to make OpenStack simpler to deploy and consume."

"OpenStack continues to gain momentum as a viable, open source cloud standard," said Jonathan Bryce, Rackspace Cloud Founder and chairman of the OpenStack Project Policy Board. "We welcome SUSE's participation in the OpenStack community and look forward to its contributions toward hardening its components and delivering enterprise-quality solutions."
