SPE'S ANTEC Conference to Co-Locate with SPI'S NPE2009

WASHINGTON, DC, U.S.A., February 6, 2008: In a plastics industry first, the 2009 edition of ANTEC(TM), the world's largest plastics technical conference, will take place during the premiere international plastics exposition of the year-NPE2009. The events will take place at Chicago's McCormick Place on June 22-26, 2009.

The announcement was made jointly today by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), presenter of the annual ANTEC conference, and The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI), which organizes the triennial NPE shows.

SPE executive director Susan Oderwald noted that three months ago, the two associations reported plans for SPE to present a "massive" technical conference at NPE2009.

"The program to be organized by SPE at NPE2009 will in fact be ANTEC itself, with absolutely all of the technical presentations, seminars, workshops, and forums that annually attract plastics professionals from around the world," said Oderwald. "The hundreds of events on our program will add a wealth of knowledge and discovery to what is already present on the exhibit floor, creating a unique opportunity for scientists and engineers to interact with our industry's sales and marketing professionals."

At ANTEC 2007, more than 3,500 engineers, scientists, technicians, technical sales and service personnel, industry managers, and academic specialists attended 650 presentations of peer-reviewed papers. In turn, SPI expects NPE2009 to attract 2,000 exhibiting companies and 75,000 visitors from well over 100 countries.

"SPE's rigorous standards for ensuring the high quality of its technical conferences have made it an internationally respected leader in disseminating knowledge and training professionals," said Gene Sanders, SPI vice president of trade shows. "The combination of ANTEC and NPE2009 will create a world plastics event of unparalleled scope."

In addition to ANTEC, Sanders noted, visitors to NPE2009 will have access to an extensive educational program developed by SPI and focusing on business and management issues, multi-exhibitor pavilions for emerging technologies and special
processing sectors, a theater for new-product demonstrations, a design competition, and other innovative programs.

ANTEC 2009 will take place in the new McCormick West building, which includes extensive, state-of-the-art meeting facilities. Completed in mid-2007, the building has 250,000 sq.ft. (23,200 sq.m) of meeting space divided among 61 rooms, plus 470,000 sq. ft. (43,700 sq.m) of gross exhibition space. The ratio of meeting to exhibit space is one of the highest in the U.S., according to Chicago's Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA), which operates McCormick Place.

This year's ANTEC 2008 will take place May 4-8 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the Midwest Express Center.
