SMT Hautes Technologies, a leading-edge EMS provider, has purchased Universal Instruments' Genesis Series 2 Platforms to comprise a flexible production line at their Montreal, Canada facility. The new Series 2 line is achieving a 20% greater throughput than the company's previous surface mount lines, while also enabling SMT Hautes to perform advanced processes on the same line. Genesis Series 2 is the most capable platform available, delivering the ultimate in modular performance for standard to extreme surface mount applications.

SMT Hautes was an existing Universal customer prior to purchasing the Genesis Series 2 line. The outstanding performance of the Advantis Platform line purchased in 2008 prompted the decision to invest in Universal's flagship Genesis Series 2 Platform.
SMT Hautes President, Stephane Deschesnes, highlighted the advantages of the new platforms, "We were initially attracted to the advanced technologies and breadth of capabilities offered by Genesis Series 2. The performance of this new line, however, has been even more impressive than anticipated." Deschesnes continued, "We're seeing a 20% greater throughput on this line than on any of our earlier lines. In addition, the accuracy, repeatability and reliability have been outstanding. We've successfully demonstrated 100% yield on 01005 passives and also on our proprietary Package-on-Package (PoP) process to our prospective customers."

SMT Hautes operates in a very dynamic environment with applications requirements that often extend beyond standard surface mount platform capabilities. This is the ideal environment for Genesis Series 2 and one in which its full potential can be realized."
Genesis Series 2 offers a number of improvements over the previous Genesis Platform. Throughput has been improved by an average of 10% across the Genesis portfolio. Vision capabilities have been enhanced to process multiple-field-of-view components two to three times faster. Board size capability has been increased by 40%, up to 1016mm long. The Lightning Head now offers an available Vertical Part Sensor (VPS) to verify part presence and position on the spindle prior to placement. Additionally, the Dimensions DPO software line balance and optimization tools have been improved to yield up to a 10% improvement in throughput.
