SME Introduces Closed-Caption Manufacturing Videos for the Hearing Impaired

More than 60 training and educational videos now available in new format

DEARBORN, Mich. — SME, an organization that connects people to solutions in manufacturing, works with academia and companies to train and enhance the existing workforce, as well as the next generation of manufacturing professionals. SME recently launched a solution for the hearing impaired with closed-caption educational videos, now available at sme.org/cctitles. These programs are available in DVD and live streaming formats.

“Closed-caption programs are essential tools for the hearing impaired,” said Jeannine Kunz, managing director of workforce and education for SME. “SME strives to provide the necessary tools to all of its customers. This step toward diversified education exemplifies the measures that SME is progressively taking to appeal to everyone involved in manufacturing.”

Additionally, educators can leverage closed-caption programs to maximize classroom time instead of lecturing on how a process is performed. After viewing the videos, students are able to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to a real-world, advanced manufacturing environment. Another benefit of these programs is that they are a great resource when students are in an environment where audio is not available.

SME is in line with Federal Communication Commission’s Accessibility and Innovation Initiative in that the closed-caption educational video programs are aimed to promote collaborative problem-solving among students and other SME stakeholders.

SME offers more than 200 training and educational video programs.
