WEST SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - While many conferences and exhibits rely on the breakfast buffet and coffee stations to provide a jolt to attendees, EASTEC 2010 will stimulate its attendees through daily keynote presentations on innovation, opportunities for growth, strategic positioning and new collaborations.

On Tuesday, May 25, Bryan Hughes, director at P&M Corporate Finance, will present the "Medical Device Manufacturing Outlook Keynote." According to Hughes, medical device companies are focusing a larger proportion of resources on product development and marketing in an effort to bring innovative devices to market. Consequently, in certain medical device segments, outsourcing of manufacturing is becoming increasingly prevalent.

On Wednesday, May 26, attendees will have the opportunity to attend two critical presentations. Richard Aboulafia, vice president of analysis at the Teal Group, will start the day by delivering the 2010 "Aerospace Global Forecasting Keynote." Aboulafia suggests that aviation markets have held up well during the global economic downturn. His presentation will examine current market conditions and the direction in which the commercial jet, business jet and military segments are headed during the coming years.

Maggie Nichols, vice president at Eureka! Ranch International, will deliver a second keynote address Wednesday titled "How to Create, Communicate and Commercialize Meaningfully Unique Ideas." According to Nichols, companies pursuing innovation as their core strategy realize 50% to 100% higher profit margins than those who pursue low cost, high quality, fast delivery or voice of the customer as their business strategy. Innovation Engineering teaches business leaders a systematic approach to learning profitable growth through innovation.

The final keynote presentation will take place on Thursday, May 27. Mike Reopel, principal at Deloitte Consulting, will present "Prospects for Advanced Manufacturing in New England." Reopel states, "We have the opportunity to leverage the current focus on the economy and build on the earlier successes of the industry. This will allow New England to capitalize on the predicted economic upswing. Through a more focused collaboration of industry, government and education, advanced manufacturing can be enhanced and expanded."

EASTEC 2010 will also offer an Executive Breakfast where Chris Trimble, the author of 10 Rules for Strategic Innovators, will present "The Innovation Imperative and Revitalizing the U.S. Economy." Additionally, the new Innovations Theater will be the venue for manufacturers to introduce new products and services rolled out since last year's event.

EASTEC, the largest annual manufacturing event on the East Coast, is sponsored by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and will be held at the Eastern States Exposition May 25-27. The event centers on five exhibit categories: Design, Engineering and Rapid Technologies; Tooling, Workholding and Machining Accessories; Automation and Process Improvement; Plant, Energy and Environmental Efficiency; and Precision Manufacturing Equipment and Systems. EASTEC also features a Lean and Green Resource Center offering presentations, consultations and opportunities to meet potential business partners.
