This scholarship program will now provide four, full tuition scholarships for the next two academic years, 2014-15 and 2015-16. “Inspiring young people to pursue degrees in engineering technology is crucial for securing the future of the manufacturing industry in Ohio,” said Rodney Grover, senior development officer at the SME Education Foundation. “We have created a growing number of strong partnerships between organizations, businesses and exemplary schools to bring a comprehensive approach to manufacturing education. Our collaborative efforts with organizations like Mazak Corporation help drive the future of the manufacturing workforce.”

According to the 2013 Manufacturing Brief,  the Ohio manufacturing industry is undergoing a clear resurgence as evidenced by the recent growth of manufacturing-related jobs, particularly in Northeast Ohio. This report, released by the Center for Economic Development at Cleveland State University in December 2013, illustrates how the manufacturing industry is rebounding strongly from the recent recession.

“The ability of this country to research, design and develop innovative manufacturing technologies is critical in our ability to increase productivity in durable goods, which increases employment and provides economic and social wellbeing,” says Brian Papke, president, Mazak Corp. “We are reaching out to talented young people to help them secure a viable future with a technology-based education.”
