Press release date: October 3, 2007

RALEIGH, NC (October 3, 2007) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has expanded the inductance ranges of their shielded and unshielded power surface mount inductors. There have also been several series with size additions as well. These expansions across the product line will allow design engineers more options within a single preferred inductor type or package. This means that more designs can use a single product type, which reduces the need for additional product types or packages as well as reduces the part numbers or drawings needed to accommodate those parts.

Among the key expansions were the PCD series and the PSDB series. The PCD series added three new package sizes as well as expanded the inductance value range up to 820 uH. The PSDB series has added three values to support customer requirements as well as improved the available inductance range to 1000 uH (1mH). These expansions show the capability of Stackpole to respond to customer needs when a specific size or inductance value isn't defined on the standard data sheet. Typically inductor data sheets are filled with information on each particular part size and inductance combination. To save space and to keep the inductor data sheets from becoming too large and cumbersome, it is possible that not all of the available size / inductance value combinations are listed on the data sheet.

Stackpole's SMD power inductor line includes 5 different series of unshielded power inductors and 8 different series of shielded power inductors. Unshielded inductors are typically specified when the application isn't sensitive to electromagnetic fields associated with inductors, when the maximum amount of inductance is needed in a given footprint, or when cost is most critical. Unshielded inductors, which are more commonly specified, are usually chosen when circuitry that is sensitive to magnetic field is in close proximity, or when design engineers don't want to have to worry about the issue.

Stackpole Electronics Inc. is a leading global manufacturer of resistors supplying to the worlds largest OEMs, contract manufacturers and distributors. Headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., the privately held company began manufacturing in 1928 as part of Stackpole Carbon Company in St. Mary's, Pennsylvania. Now affiliated with Akahane Electronics, Stackpole has manufacturing facilities in Japan, Taiwan, China and Mexico; warehousing facilities in El Paso, Hong Kong and Japan; and sales offices in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
