Press release date: September 25, 2008

The SMAC LAR31 series Moving Coil Actuator is extremely precise with an encoder resolution of 5 micron with standard options of 1, 0.5 & 0.1. Repeatable positioning to +/- 2 encoder counts. Further to this highly accurate placement with shaft run-out less than or equal to 30um standard, with less than or equal to 10um achievable for special units. It also designed to deliver long life for continuous operation, with units in excess of 100 million cycles in the field.

The LAR31 series actuator is compact measuring only 140 x 77.25 x 35mm and can easily be programmed to control force/torque, position & velocity in all axes. This enables the ability placement of components at different heights and to have a 'window' to warn of missing or broken components.

The unit offers multi-functionality with the ability to assemble & test components with additional life test & measurement functions in one single unit. The system has the significant advantage of low repeatable friction.

The actuator also has SMAC's unique 'Softland' function which enables the unit to gently land on a delicate component with a controlled force to avoid damage of both the component and the actuator.

This SMAC solution is highly cost efficient has now been used in a number and variety of PCB assembly applications across the world.

SMAC Moving Coil Actuators are designed to deliver the following benefits: Compact overall size, light weight, extremely fast, high precision and offering a combination of programmable force, position & velocity in both linear & rotary axis at the same time.

SMAC Inc is the world leader in Moving Coil Actuators and associated control systems. Headquartered in Carlsbad, California USA with subsidiaries throughout the North America, Europe, Asia & Japan. SMAC delivers high tech solutions to industry with single & multi axes linear, linear/rotary actuators, integrated XY & XYZ stages, positioning stages and electronic control solutions.
