SICK AG Expands Sales Presence in Canada to Meet the Needs of Process Automation Customers

Company acquires AMKO SYSTEMS INC., a distributor and supplier of process automation technology

Jan. 21, 2009 - SICK (www.sickusa.com), one of the world's leading manufacturers of sensors, safety systems, machine vision, and automatic identification products for factory and logistics automation as well as solutions for process automation, today announced that SICK Ltd. has acquired AMKO Systems Inc. in Toronto, Canada, a leading supplier of process automation technology. Solutions for factory and logistics automation applications in Canada will continue to be handled by SICK Authorized Distributors in that region.

Effective January 2, 2009, SICK has purchased the tangible and intangible assets of AMKO Systems. As a successful and dependable business partner over many years, AMKO has used SICK analyzers in flue gas and dust measurement applications in power stations and cement factories, and for other applications. The new company, with a short-term annual sales target of approximately 5 m. Canadian dollars, represents an important component of SICK's NAFTA strategy for the process automation segment. Building upon the expertise and customer orientation of employees, SICK will further grow the business. The expansion of sales and using the advantage of cross-company synergies within the SICK organization are priorities for further improving market opportunities.

Dr. Robert Bauer, spokesperson for SICK's Executive Board, commented "Given the difficult overall economic situation, we are delighted about this expansion in the area of process automation - a sector that is less dependent on short-time economic cycles. Moreover, our direct presence in the Canadian market will contribute towards further enhancing SICK's overall position in North America."
