SENSOR+TEST: MAZeT Presents Embedded Color Measurement Systems

Variety of applications for color sensors - from LED light regulation to the spectral analysis of materials and liquids

Jena – At this year's international Sensor+Test trade fair, sensor specialist MAZeT will be presenting innovative sensor solutions relating to light regulation and the spectral analysis of materials and liquids under the JENCOLOR brand in Hall 12 at Stand 322. All JENCOLOR sensor systems are based on photodiodes with structured interference filters and thus possess typical properties such as a high working frequency and constant parameters in a specified temperature range. The sensors are available as components in compact housings or as application-specific assemblies. Software and requirements for calibration can be adapted to suit the applications and the client's needs.

Closely control light colors

When it comes to sensor applications for LED light regulation, systems for multispectral LED light sources (n>3 e.g. RGBW), which are characterized by a high level of stability for the chromaticity coordinate over time and the working temperature range, are being presented at the trade fair. This can be spot, line, area or contour lighting which, thanks to its stability, ensures defined light parameters over the long term without noticeable aging and temperature influence. Typical applications include LED lights for variable ambient temperatures, those used in vehicles or for outdoor lighting.

MAZeT achieves these lighting system properties using sensor-based light regulation based on True Color sensors (in accordance with CIE 1931 and the colorimetric principle), as well as electronics and firmware tailored to the application.

Using spectral analyses on the move

The JENCOLOR multispectral sensors are suitable for applications in analytics and medicine. The color of a sample is assessed on a radiometric level rather than on a colorimetric level. As a result, you obtain a spectral characteristic of the sample dispersed over six supporting points. The benefits of multispectral measurement consist of the larger amount of information on the spectral distribution of the radiation coming from the sample.  This enables both the evaluation of color properties and also an estimation of spectral material properties. Typical areas of application here include the assessment of surfaces, the detection of markers in medicine, the environment, the pharma industry and biochemistry. In many cases, using multispectral sensors can allow identifying and differentiating pigments, liquids and dispersions across spectral properties to take place much more cost-effectively and with a higher measurement sequence frequency in comparison to familiar technical realizations.

Customized signal processing

JENCOLOR sensors are complemented with adapted signal processing ICs. These include multi-channel analog-digital converters and transimpedance amplifiers, and can give out analog and digital measurement values. The sensors and signal processing ICs are available for a design-in phase as an evaluation kit. As a special design-in service, MAZeT offers a spectral simulation of the whole sensor system for the system design phase.

You can find MAZeT at SENSOR & TEST in Nuremberg from May 14-16, 2013 in Hall 12 at Stand 322.
