Greene Receives SAE Award for Excellence in Automotive Policy Analysis

WARRENDALE, Pa., June 1, 2007 - David Greene, Corporate Fellow, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Knoxville, Tenn., is the recipient of SAE International's Barry D. McNutt Award for Excellence in Automotive Policy Analysis. Greene was presented the award at the 2007 Government/Industry Meeting in Washington, D.C.

The award, established in 2004, recognizes outstanding contributions to the development of efficient and effective federal policies related to the automotive sector. It honors the memory of Barry D. McNutt, a major contributor to national energy and environmental policies for transportation. A 35-year member of SAE International and career-long public servant, McNutt served the Public Health Service, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Energy Administration, and the U.S. Department of Energy.

The SAE Foundation funds this grant. In addition to supporting the awards, recognition and scholarship programs of SAE International, the SAE Foundation develops and funds programs and incentives that foster student interest in engineering, scientific and technical education.

As Corporate Fellow at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Greene conducts transportation and energy policy research for the U.S. Department of Energy. He is a consultant to The Hewlett Foundation, The Energy Foundation, The United Nations, The Pew Center on Global Climate Change, and Pollution Probe of Canada. Previously, Greene was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Transportation and Statistics; Senior Research Analyst for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Policy Integration; and Head of Transportation Research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Greene is the author of more than 200 professional publications, including research on fuel economy standards, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, and U.S. oil dependence. He is also a contributor to nine National Research Council reports. Greene is a Lifetime National Associate of The National Academies, and a Member Emeritus of the Transportation Research Board Committees on Energy and Alternative Fuels. He is also a member of SAE International and the International Association for Energy Economics.

Greene holds a bachelor's from Columbia University, a master's from the University of Oregon, and a doctorate from The Johns Hopkins University. He resides in Farragut, Tenn.
