SAE announces winner of Russell S. Springer Award.

January 8, 2008 - SAE International announced that Cherian Idicheria is the recipient of its Russell S. Springer Award, which will be presented during the SAE 2007 World Congress in Detroit, April 14-17. A research scientist in the diesel engine systems group of the Powertrain Systems Research Laboratory at General Motors, Idicheria will be recognized for his paper, Formaldehyde Visualization Near Lift-off Location in a Diesel Jet, co-authored by Lyle M. Pickett.

WARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 17, 2007 -

Cherian Idicheria of the General Motors Research and Development Laboratory in Warren, Mich., is the recipient of SAE International's Russell S. Springer Award. He will be presented his award during the SAE 2007 World Congress in Detroit, April 14-17.

The award, established in 1954, recognizes the author of an original and outstanding technical paper presented at an SAE International conference that contributes to the mobility engineering profession.

Idicheria will be recognized for his paper, "Formaldehyde Visualization Near Lift-off Location in a Diesel Jet" (SAE Paper #2006-01-3434), co-authored by Lyle M. Pickett.

Idicheria is a research scientist in the diesel engine systems group of the Powertrain Systems Research Laboratory at General Motors. Previously, he was a postdoctoral appointee with the engine combustion department at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, Calif.

Idicheria is the author or co-author of eight peer-reviewed papers and several other conference papers on diesel combustion and turbulent combustion. In 2005, he was recognized by SAE International with the Excellence in Oral Presentation Award.

Idicheria holds a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and a doctorate degree from The University of Texas at Austin.
