SAE Foundation Honors Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally
WARRENDALE, Pa., Feb. 18, 2008 - Alan Mulally, President and Chief Executive Officer, Ford Motor Company, is the recipient of the SAE Foundation Manufacturing Leadership Award. The award will be presented to Mulally at the 2008 SAE Foundation Banquet in Detroit , May 22.
The Manufacturing Leadership Award recognizes individuals who have made meaningful contributions to the development of the automotive industry. Nominees must have achieved a significant level of success in their manufacturing careers, demonstrated innovation and risk taking, and established a new direction or developed a position that challenged the industry. Commitment to the community through educational, philanthropic or government activities is also required.
Mulally is President and Chief Executive Officer at Ford Motor Company, a position he has held since September 2006. Prior to joining Ford, Mulally was Executive Vice President of The Boeing Company and President and Chief Executive Officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Mulally worked at Boeing for 37 years.
Throughout his career, Mulally has been recognized for his contributions and industry leadership, including being named "Person of the Year" for 2006 by Aviation Week magazine and one of "The Best Leaders of 2005" by BusinessWeek magazine.
Mulally is a member of the United States National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of 's Royal Academy of Engineering. Previously, he served as co-chair of the Washington Competitiveness Council, and sat on the advisory boards of NASA, the University of Washington , the University of Kansas , Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the U.S. Air Force Scientific Advisory Board.
He is a past president of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and a past chairman of the Board of Governors of the Aerospace Industries Association.
Mulally holds bachelor's and master's degrees in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the University of Kansas , and a master's in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was a 1982 Alfred P. Sloan fellow.
