Governors and Green Technology Highlight SAE 2009 World Congress

DETROIT, May 14 / / - Attendees of the SAE 2009 World Congress were treated to informative discussions from two governors of states that help shape the automotive industry - Gov. Jennifer Granholm of Michigan and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California. The two political leaders shared their views and opinions on the state of the industry - along with how green technology plays a role in its future - during the Opening Ceremony.

Green was the theme of the conference, as set forth by Host Company Honda and event general chairman Masaaki Kato, Senior Managing Director of Honda Motor Company and former President of Honda R & D. "Racing to Green Mobility" was designed to provide a strong sense of purpose and mission for the collective effort to reduce the environmental footprint of products and operations. Several panel discussions focused on emissions, the environment and how going green can be incorporated into a business model.

SAE International carried that theme throughout its operations as well. All promotional materials were printed on recycled paper, overall electrical demand was decreased, the Show Daily was delivered electronically, and technical papers were printed on-demand or delivered electronically.

Bosch served as the Tier One Strategic Partner for the SAE World Congress, which featured three technical theaters on the show floor - the AVL Technology Leadership Theater; the FEV Powertrain Innovation Forum; and the ATX - Consulting4Drive Executive Business Theater.

In all, nearly 16,000 registered for the four-day event. And, more than 1,300 technical papers were presented, focusing on seven key technology areas - electronics, emissions/environment, integrated design and manufacturing, management, materials, propulsion/powertrain, and safety and testing. In addition, a Career Fair was held at which companies posted dozens of available jobs for those seeking employment. Highlighting the Annual Banquet was a keynote address by Takeo Fukui, President and Chief Executive Officer, Honda Motor Company.

This year also marks the debut of SAE International's Virtual Conference Center. Video packages from key technical sessions and panel discussions are available to those who could not attend the meeting at http://www.sae.org/congress.
