USA

Press release date: April 16, 2007

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 16-- Ruckus Wireless today introduced its Ruckus Interoperability and Open Testing Program (RIOT) for the metro Wi-Fi market.

The RIOT Metro program was developed to ensure the flawless operation of and interoperability between outdoor metro Wi-Fi equipment and Ruckus indoor metro Wi-Fi gateways. BelAir Networks, Mesh Dynamics, Motorola, Proxim, SkyPilot Networks and Tropos Networks are among the inaugural members. Ruckus previously announced (December, 2005) a RIOT IPTV program for the ecosystem of suppliers in the IPTV market.

Under the RIOT Metro program, wireless broadband providers can feel confident in the highest level of interoperability, performance and functionality between outdoor Wi-Fi mesh nodes and the Ruckus MetroFlex, the industry's leading indoor metro Wi-Fi modem.

"Reliably connecting indoor users to metro networks is essential to their success," said Chuck Haas, president and CEO of MetroFi, Inc., the leading provider of metro Wi-Fi services. "It's become imperative that suppliers work together to ensure the highest level of performance and interoperability. We are pleased to see this happening."

MetroFi has deployed Wi-Fi networks in a number of cities across the U.S., including several in California (Concord, Cupertino, Foster City, Riverside, San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale), as well as Portland, OR and Aurora, IL.

"The importance of the subscriber relative to the interaction between what's in the home and what's on the pole outside cannot be understated," said Travis Carter, VP of Technology as US Internet. "In Minneapolis, the relationship between how the customer premise equipment works with the infrastructure was our primary focus and the reason we were selected to build this one of the largest metro Wi-Fi networks in the country."

US Internet was selected in September 2006 by the city of Minneapolis to build and operate the 60-square-mile broadband wireless network using BelAir Networks award-winning mobile broadband mesh infrastructure.

The goal of the RIOT Metro program is to accelerate the deployment and use of 802.11 metro Wi-Fi networks by simplifying their installation and operation and maximizing their performance. RIOT Metro testing and interoperability is open to all manufacturers of Wi-Fi metro equipment at no cost. All testing is performed by Ruckus Wireless in real-world environments.

Under the RIOT Metro program, metro partners are invited to test and validate complete end-to-end solutions, trial and tune services, ensure technical interoperability and leverage unique functionality and features to optimize higher-layer applications. Partners engage in joint marketing and sales education as well as developing customized solutions tailored to meet the needs of customers. Source: Ruckus Wireless, Inc.
