Rockwell Automation Honors Engineers for Innovation and Engineering Excellence


MILWAUKEE, Nov. 27, 2006 - Rockwell Automation (NYSE: ROK) honored its most accomplished engineers at the 24th annual Patent and Innovation awards celebrations Nov. 14 in Milwaukee, and Nov. 16 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Keith Nosbusch, chairman and CEO, and Sujeet Chand, senior vice president and chief technology officer, presented the company's two most prestigious recognitions, the Odo J. Struger Automation Award and the Engineer of the Year award, and honored recipients of innovation awards and patents issued in the past year.

"The level of innovation exhibited by these engineers is a true competitive differentiator for Rockwell Automation around the world," said Nosbusch. "These award winners are examples of distinguished contributions enabled by a unique balance of customer insight, technical excellence and an infectious curiosity to solve tough business problems."

Jon Simons received the Odo J. Struger Automation Award, which honors individuals for significant technical, commercial, and professional leadership that results in business and financial success for the company. Simons was recognized for his outstanding blend of technical, commercial and process skills, leadership and professionalism show over a distinguished 23-year career at Rockwell Automation in the field of drives and automation.

Michael Melfi was this year's honoree for the Engineer of the Year award, which recognizes exceptional engineers whose aspirations, vision and teamwork have led to innovation in their fields. Melfi was selected for his distinguished contributions to the design, development and application of Reliance Electric variable speed motors and his technical expertise in applying electric motors to variable speed applications.
During the ceremonies, engineers who received patents issued between July 1, 2005, and June 30, 2006, were also recognized.
