Robot Safety Awareness Webinar Registration Now Open

(ANN ARBOR, Michigan USA) RIA members take special interest in robot safety and a new Robot Safety Awareness webinar, July 19, 2011, is sponsored by industry leaders including IPR Robotics, LLC and ABB Inc. In this webinar, the Robotic Industries Association previews the new National Robot Safety Standard and basic compliance issues. Registration is available on Robotics Online at no charge.

For more than a decade, OSHA has referred to the ANSI/RIA R15.06-1999 Robot Safety Standard but times and technology change and so has the standard. This webinar gives you a chance to hear about the changes directly from RIA before they go into effect.

"RIA has been dedicated to the development of a new ISO standard for robot safety, ISO 10218, and our strategy is to incorporate it into the new ANSI/RIA R15.06 National Robot Safety Standard," said Jeff Fryman, RIA Director of Standards Development. "The ISO standard is on the verge of getting published and when it does we will ensure the ANSI standard is in lock step. Very soon the robotics industry will have safety standards that are harmonized throughout the world."

Manufacturers have already started producing robots that are compliant with the new Robot Safety Standard. In fact, Robot Safety Awareness webinar sponsor ABB offers robots with the enhanced safety features in the new standard which allows for collaborative operation. Integrators and users must do their part to comply which is fine with IPR Robotics, a Michigan-based integrator of robotic systems and the first sponsor to support the webinar.

RIA offers in-house training and regional training on robot safety. The 23rd National Robot Safety Conference will be held September 19-21, 2011, in Knoxville, Tennessee. See all the robot safety activities from RIA on Robotics Online in the Events section or call 734/994-6088.
