PHOENIX - Thanks in part to Rite-Hite, baseball fans entering Phoenix's Chase Field this summer have been greeted by something quite unexpected: a cool, shady breeze.
Rite-Hite Fans were among the leading-edge products used in the new solar shade project opened by the Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) at the stadium's west entrance just prior to the 2011 MLB All-Star Game. Four of Rite-Hite's 12-foot diameter HVLS (high volume, low speed) fans were installed in the APS Solar Pavilion as an additional, energy-efficient means to keep baseball fans cool. The Solar Pavilion features an array of high tech products, and APS is testing electric-car charging stations and battery storage with the project. The Pavilion also includes a green energy classroom where fans can learn about renewable energy and conservation.
The Diamondbacks are considering adding more shade structures to the plaza next season.
