Research & Development 100 Award 2011 for Carl Zeiss Imaging System LSM 780

The LSM 780 from Carl Zeiss has been awarded the Research & Development 100 Award 2011. The LSM 780 is a confocal laser scanning microscope, featuring high-sensitivity GaAsP detector, innovative software functions for single molecule and high dynamic range imaging and a 355nm CW laser. The highly advanced detector almost doubles sensitivity, enabling researchers to image samples with increased scanning speed and improved image quality. More than 100 leading Bioscience labs worldwide are using the advantages of the GaAsP technology already.

Since 1963, an independent judging panel and editors of R&D Magazine have annually awarded the 100 most technologically significant products introduced into the marketplace. The winners of the 49th Annual R&D 100 Awards were announced on June 22, 2011. Carl Zeiss has repeatedly won the R&D 100 Award and is honored to receive the respected award once more. Ralf Engelmann, Product Manager at Carl Zeiss MicroImaging, states: "The award for the LSM 780 shows that we are striving to continuously lead the way in the world of optical sectioning technologies."

The R&D 100 Awards recognize the top technology products of the year in subjects ranging from new materials, chemistry research breakthroughs, biomedical products and high-energy physics.

The winners come from a cross-section of industry, academia, private research firms and government laboratories.
