Renishaw's Gold Standard calibration system introduces sub-micron (0.7ppm) accuracy to machine tools and CMMs Industry's most accurate interferometer, the latest generation ML10 features environmental compensation from 0-40°C, new Laser10 software

September 2006 - If "pinpoint accuracy" was the standard before, the pinpoint just shrank 36%. Renishaw's Gold Standard laser calibration system, the latest generation of the company's proven ML10 system, now enables machine tools and CMMs to be calibrated more accurately than previously possible. The ML10 Gold system maintains the ML10 as the most accurate interferometric laser calibration system on the market. The ML10 Gold Standard, with EC10 environmental compensation unit, provides linear, angular, and straightness measurements to 0.7ppm (0.0007mm/m) accuracy and 0.000001mm resolution for ultra-precise machine calibration.

Based on a frequency-stabilized Class II HeNe laser, the ML10 Gold Standard system has axis range of 40m and works in temperatures from 0-40°C, with an environmental compensation unit that "normalizes" all temperature, pressure and humidity factors. The system has doubled the laser frequency accuracy to 0.05ppm and handles axis speeds to 1000mm/sec. A long-range ML10X version calibrates axes to 80m for very large gantry machines, while retaining precise accuracy. A special ML10Q version provides real time standard RS422 quadrature output, in addition to the standard RS485 data link. Each model is backed by a three-year "no-hassle" warranty.

The ML10 Gold Standard system is backward compatible with all accessories, components and operating procedures related to the original ML10. For "one-step" setup, the system can be used with the company's patent-pending LS350 laser beam steerer optics. Users simply slide horizontal or vertical control levers on the LS350 to "steer" the laser beam into alignment in both horizontal and vertical planes. The LS350 provides beam sweep of ±2° (±35mm/m) in both planes for axes up to 5m and is compatible with swivel mirror and fixed turning mirror accessories for 90° setups.

The ML10 Gold Standard uses Renishaw's new Laser10 software, which is compatible with Windows® 95, 98, ME and NT platforms using a number of interface options for both notebook and desktop computers. The powerful, user-friendly software now comes with a new and comprehensive online help package to aid users in proper system setup and software assistance. The software allows users the capability for both static, rotary and dynamic data capture and provides data analysis for the various National and International CMM and machine tool standards.
