Reminder: Registration Deadline Approaches for Supporting Transatlantic Trade Conference

Just ten days remain to register for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) conference, "Supporting Transatlantic Trade - Standards and Conformance for Business and Regulators." The conference will be held on September 24, 2008, at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC.

Advance registration is required by September 15, 2008.

"Standards and conformity assessment activities are excellent tools to improve the free flow of goods and services around the world," said Gary Kushnier, ANSI vice president of international policy. "We have organized this conference to explore how standards - as well as compliance with those standards - can help to further advance international trade objectives, particularly between the United States and Europe."

During this day-long event, industry and government experts from a broad range of sectors will introduce several standards and conformity assessment case studies that demonstrate the challenges and successes related to market access and/or market acceptance, and how these instances have affected current and future U.S.-EU trade. Presenters will also discuss U.S. and European policies that promote private sector standards and conformance mechanisms, and the use of these mechanisms to support transatlantic regulatory and economic cooperation.

In a final discussion, attendees will be invited to contribute their thoughts on how standards and compliance programs can be actively utilized to enhance the trade of goods and services across country borders.

Participants will include stakeholders from the private and public sectors in both the U.S. and Europe, including representatives of industry, government, standards developing organizations, conformity assessment bodies, the scientific and technical communities, and other affected groups.

Supporting Transatlantic Trade is co-organized by ANSI and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), and hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and BUSINESSEUROPE.

Registration is required by September 15, 2008. For online registration and information on agenda, fees, and sponsorship, visit the event page on ANSI Online or contact the ANSI registration coordinator (212.642.4956; registration@ansi.org).
