Press release date: April 16, 2010

This Glenro provided two pass, electric infrared predryer directly replaced a traditional natural gas/propane fired textile fabric infrared predryer. It was located prior to the tenter frame on a fabric finishing line and its installation increased line speeds and consequently increased product revenue while decreasing markedly the overall carbon footprint of the process.

  • Increase Line Speeds
  • Increase Product Revenues
  • Decrease Carbon Footprint

Specific to the application, the electric infrared predryer proved to be more energy efficient than its gas infrared counterpart. The radiant and convective losses were significantly reduced. Its large turn down capability along with more zoning in machine direction enhanced the final "hand" of the fabrics, including all the lighter weight goods that were processed.

  • Reduce Exhaust Air Volume and Temperature
  • Lower Radiant Losses to the Room
  • Flexible Turndown & Zoning
  • Improve Product Quality

If more speed is not your need, the addition of an electric infrared predryer can decrease the work load of the gas fired finishing range and in turn, reduce the overall carbon footprint of the process line. Typically, about 25% of the length of the range is required to preheat the product high enough before any appreciable water removal happens. A properly designed predryer can take this portion of work away from the range and reduce the rated capacity (carbon footprint) of the larger, gas fired dryer.

Given all the recent talk about carbon footprint, Glenro can help you find alternative, industrial electric heating solutions for your product manufacturing application. While this product announcement is specific to textile fabric predrying, there are a host of applications where electric infrared has proven to be a good fit. As a general rule, approximately 115 pounds of CO2 are generated per million BTU of combusted natural gas energy. The rated capacity of the unit illustrated reduced the rate of CO2 emissions by approximately 350 pounds per hour of operation. If you do the math, the CO2 emissions can add up fast over 2000, 4000 or 6000 hours of operation per year.

  • 115 lbs. CO2/1,000,000 BTU/hr Natural Gas
  • 350 lbs./hr CO2 Eliminated
  • 2210 lbs. CO2/Metric Ton

While it takes a lot of natural gas fired energy to produce one metric ton of CO2 emissions, many manufacturers are beginning to calculate their overall carbon footprint in an effort to anticipate what will be required when the government comes knocking. We believe that if government starts to regulate energy providers, it will end with industrial users paying more for their utilities. More electricity that comes from renewable sources is one way to stay clear of these potential cost increases. Glenro infrared predrying technology can be applied profitably. Very short payback periods with attractive ROI's is what you can expect. Electric infrared preheaters and predryers are widely used in the converting and textile markets and our website lists many Proven Solutions® in which to gain more confidence in the merits of the technology.

  • Short Payback Period
  • Attractive ROI
