Press release date: May 23, 2011

Dublin, Ireland - 23 May 2011 - RedMere®, a leading supplier of smart active cable solutions, has announced the launch of Asia's first ever ultra-thin, portable High Speed Micro-HDMI cables for ultra-portable devices such as the smartphone, tablet, digital camera and camcorder with BUFFALO KOKUYO SUPPLY INC in Japan. RedMere and BUFFALO KOKUYO SUPPLY INC successfully introduced Japan's first ever smart ultra-slim HDMI cables with an embedded booster for use in home theatre, PCs, PC peripherals, satellite box and gaming high definition and 3D TV applications late last year.

RedMere's patented active cable technology means that for the first time in Asia the smartphone and tablet user has the choice to buy a Micro-HDMI cable portable enough to fit in the jeans pocket or the carry case and long enough to view high definition images, movies or footage from up to two meters from the HDTV.

There has been a huge increase of high definition web and video content available for smartphones and tablets, and the major brands have been quick to adopt more fully featured media capabilities into their devices such as incorporating full high definition video and photo imaging plus HDMI-out for sharing the content. HD playback or "mirroring" has now become a must-have feature on smartphones and tablets. Apart from being HDMI-enabled these portable devices also share in common the fact that they are becoming lighter, leaner and sleeker looking. In addition, nearly all high-end and mid-end digital camcorders and cameras allow the user to point, shoot and share in full HD.

Until now traditional HDMI cables that have been available to share the content for devices with Micro-HDMI out are unwieldy, thick and heavy; they are not portable and they are so short the user of the device is required to stand close to the HDTV to use them. RedMere's smart cable technology has an embedded booster module which dramatically reduces the cable size and weight by removing up to 70% of the copper and up to 80% of the PVC, and no external power supply is needed. Therefore RedMere's smart cables are 65% thinner, lighter and longer than the standard HDMI cables, they are portable enough to wind up and pop in your pocket, similarly they are long enough to watch high-def media on the HDTV from 'couch distance' - perfect for sharing content or gaming.

Ruud van der Linden, RedMere's Chief Marketing Officer commented 'RedMere is delighted to add the D-type cable with the micro connector to the Asian CE market with BUFFALO KOKUYO SUPPLY INC in Japan. As well as looking great these tiny cables are on-trend as they are the only cables available to actively enable and encourage media sharing to this degree. The user can now effectively turn the HDTV into a monitor for the smartphone or tablet to play games or browse the net, and no other HDMI cable on the market today in Asia is as light or as portable as this Micro-HDMI powered by RedMere's technology. '

The BUFFALO KOKUYO SUPPLY INC's High Speed Micro-HDMI cable is available in 3 lengths, 1, 1.5 and 2 meters and with a diameter as slim as 2.5mm, these cables can support data rates of up to 10.2Gbps all while maintaining the latest in 1.4 HDMI compliance and full HD 3D, 1080p, and 4K2K standards. The High Speed Micro-HDMI cables are now available in Asia throughout BUFFALO KOKUYO SUPPLY INC's retail stores in Japan and also from the website buffalo-kokuyo.jp.
