Record Numbers Attend NADCA's Die Casting Congress & Tabletop



Wheeling, IL - The North American Die Casting Association's (NADCA) Die Casting Congress & Tabletop was held on September 19-21 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, OH. The Congress was met with great interest from the die casting industry. Sponsored by NADCA, the event attracted over 675 attendees (over 285 different companies were represented) and 91 companies showcased the latest technology, research and services available to the die casting industry.

"NADCA is very pleased with the support it received from the supplier and die caster's that participated in this event. It is the first time in seven years that NADCA ran its own event and the response from the industry was spectacular. There were over 675 registrants and more than 100 die casting facilities represented at the show. It is impossible to find anywhere else, the quality and quantity of attendees in one area over a three day period," said NADCA President Daniel L. Twarog.

This event featured three days of Congress sessions during which technical and management presentations were given by experts from around the world. These presentations offered sessions in several different fields of metalcasting including: advanced technologies, die materials, computer modeling, cast materials, die surface engineering, equipment and process control.

Twarog added, "Many of the Congress sessions had over 80 people listen to the papers presented. This was one of the technically strongest Congresses ever held by NADCA and it showed with the high number of attendees. The survivors in this industry recognize that new technology and equipment is key to staying ahead of the rest of the world."
NADCA honored the winners of the International Die Casting Design Competition at the Design Awards Luncheon at the Greater Columbus Convention Center The winners were Juqeuieur H. Janz, Kong Sing Manufactory Co. Ltd, Endurance Technologies Ltd., Delaware Dynamics, Phillips Plastic Corp., Pace Industries Product Tech Division, Cast Products, Inc. and Dynacast.

During the NADCA Die Casting Industry Gala on September 20, the Herman H. Doehler Award, Technical Committee Member of the Year Award, the Best Congress Paper and the Emphasis on Education Award were presented.

The Herman H. Doehler Award was presented to Daniel Twarog in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the advancement of the die casting industry, the art of die casting as represented by technical achievement, advancement in plant operation and other activities. The Technical Committee Member of the Year Award was given to Stephen P. Midson for his noteworthy participation in committees, contribution to committee/task force, and applicability of efforts to industry. The Best Congress Paper was awarded to Hongyu Xue, Khalil Kabiri-Bamoradian & Allen Miller from The Ohio State University for their paper "Modeling Dynamic Pressure in High Pressure Die Casting Using a Lumped Parameter Model". This paper was selected because it demonstrates a high degree of technical achievements and excellence in the advancements of die casting. The Emphasis on Education Award was presented to Technical Die-Casting, Inc. in recognition for placing specific focus on die casting education and training for their workforce. The selection criteria for outstanding contribution to the promotion of die casting education includes the number of NADCA courses held over the past year, the total number of employees exposed to the courses, and consistency in offering courses over the past three years.

NADCA also acknowledged the 2010 Safety Awards Winners. Safety Awards are presented to NADCA Corporate Member companies that have exceeded or met the industry criteria to operate a safe working environment for their employees Eleven companies received the Perfect Safety Award, including two companies for two plants, which recognized the facilities that operated all of 2010 without a reportable injury or illness. Fourty-five companies received the Outstanding Safety Award, including five companies for multiple plants, which honored operations whose reportable injury or illness level in 2010 was below the national average for all manufacturing of 7.0.
