Reconnex Corporation
201 Ravendale Drive
Mountain View, CA, 94043
USA

Press release date: September 19, 2006

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 19 / -- Reconnex, the expert in information protection, today announced that it has integrated its leading-edge content monitoring platform with Extreme Networks, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:EXTR) Ethernet switching solutions to provide customers real-time security with policy enforcement. Reconnex has leveraged Extreme Networks' open security framework and extensible operating system, ExtremeXOS(TM), to allow enterprises to take policy-based action to help prevent intellectual property and confidential data from leaving corporate networks.

The Reconnex iGuard is a high-performance appliance that protects inbound and outbound traffic at gigabit speeds, allowing enterprises to discover, monitor, and capture network content and to perform searches on the captured content to detect previously unknown security threats. The Reconnex iGuard will communicate directly with Extreme Networks' high-performance BlackDiamond® switch via an extensible XML interface, allowing the switch to take action on security violations as they happen.

"Extreme Networks' open and extensible network software platform, based on our ExtremeXOS operating system, presents a unique opportunity for the Reconnex iGuard appliance to deliver enterprise-class scalability and performance that leverages the network infrastructure to monitor and then enforce policies," said Herb Schneider, co-founder and senior vice president of research and development for Extreme Networks. "Because the Reconnex iGuard can monitor inbound and outbound information across all protocols, communications channels, and file types, it presents one of the few content protection appliances that provide real-time enforcement of security policies for sensitive and private data."

The iGuard compares outgoing traffic to set policies to determine if the content is appropriate or not, and to determine who the user is. If the content and user are not suspicious, the Reconnex iGuard monitors the content, which is mirrored using Extreme Networks CLEAR-Flow(TM) security rules engine. However, if the content leaving the network violates a security policy or the user is suspicious, the iGuard appliance uses XML APIs available with the ExtremeXOS operating system to create real-time, dynamic Access Control Lists (ACLs) that block traffic from the user. The joint solution allows enterprises to respond quickly to security violations and take necessary action with the offending user. This security implementation leverages the existing network to mitigate security vulnerabilities.

"Reconnex understands and evaluates all of the content that leaves and enters the network. However, we know that to make real-time enforcement a reality, we must work closely with other infrastructure vendors," said Dr. Ratinder Paul Singh Ahuja, CTO at Reconnex. "We've joined forces with Extreme Network to provide our customers the highest level of protection. The power of Reconnex's high-performance appliance, combined with the XML API enforcement capability of Extreme Networks switch, gives our customers a network-based, real-time enforcement solution. We will continue to partner with other leading infrastructure companies to ensure our customers' sensitive and private data is protected."

Demonstration at Interop New York

For the first time, Extreme Networks and Reconnex will demonstrate the joint solution in the InteropNet at Interop New York, being held September 18-22 at the Jacob Javits Center. Extreme Networks designs, builds, and maintains this innovative event network, which provides the most reliable and secure converged networking services for exhibitors, conference rooms, and attendees.
