Raytheon's Airport Surface Management System, TowerTrac, Makes International Debut at World ATM Congress

Benefits include greater situational awareness, safety, capacity and efficiency

MADRID - Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) is running demonstrations of its TowerTrac integrated NextGen airport tower system for the first time before an international audience at the World ATM Congress. The system improves the efficiency, capacity and safety of airport operations by networking data that can be shared by controllers, pilots, ramp operators and other airport users.

Among its benefits, TowerTrac's digital flight strips can be accessed by touch screen technology, allowing them to be shared among controllers.

"Controllers in Mumbai would see immediate efficiencies with TowerTrac because of its ease of use and integrated data display," said Teh-Kuang Lung, director of NextGen and international ATM C4I Systems in Raytheon's Network Centric Systems business. "The shared situational awareness translates into greater safety, capacity and efficiency, which are all key ingredients of the NextGen system of tomorrow."

TowerTrac's features include runway incursion detection functions that generate alerts to both controllers and pilots. With its ability to help users plan ahead, the system saves fuel and reduces emissions by calculating taxi delay times so that planes spend less time idling in the queue.
