New Linux-based, multi-core optimized IP media processing solution addresses needs of enterprise VoIP, ATCA, and IMS markets

HILLSBORO, Ore., June 11 /-- RadiSys Corporation (NASDAQ:RSYS), a leading global provider of advanced embedded solutions, announced today the introduction of the Convedia Software Media Server. This latest solution from RadiSys, available on the company's Promentum ATCA-4300 dual-core dual Xeon compute processing module as well as the IBM System x3550 server, provides an economical IP audio and video media processing solution for Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) and Linux-based platforms.

The new Convedia Software Media Server, based on the same technology utilized in the company's existing hardware media servers, positions RadiSys as a unique supplier of both software- and hardware-based media processing products for Enterprise VoIP and IMS markets. This advance also marks the first product based on integrated technology from RadiSys and Convedia since the acquisition was completed just nine months ago. The Convedia Software Media Server provides equipment manufacturers and independent software vendors with an entry-level enterprise solution that is compatible with existing Convedia interfaces, while also addressing the growing trend toward deploying ATCA-based products.

eXtended Media Processing(TM) (eXMP(TM)) technology from RadiSys serves as the foundation for delivering proven carrier-class IP media processing capabilities across both its hardware and software products. For the enterprise telecommunications market, for instance, RadiSys eXMP technology provides access to the same media processing features, management, and control interface options available on existing Convedia media servers. This allows telecommunication equipment manufacturers and VoIP application developers to use a single supplier when developing solutions for a wide variety of IP telecommunication services and markets, from small enterprise IP PBX or IP contact center solutions, up to large IMS deployments for wireless, wireline, and cable network operators.

"The IP media server market is one that requires a multi-faceted approach rather than a one-size fits all model," said Peter Briscoe, executive vice president and general manager of RadiSys Media Server business unit. "With the addition of the Convedia Software Media Server, we deliver a unique product portfolio that allows RadiSys to provide industry-leading media processing features, control interface options and management capabilities across both our existing purpose-built hardware media servers and new software-based offerings. Telecom equipment manufacturers that develop solutions for small businesses, Fortune 500 companies and service providers now have a single source for all their audio and video media processing requirements, helping them to reduce development time, procurement costs and other administrative efforts."
