RTT USA, Inc. Creates Photorealistic Web Configurator for Toyota Highlander

PASADENA, Calif., Sept. 10 / / -- RTT USA, Inc. (RTT), a leading producer of design software for automotive, aircraft and consumer goods applications, was selected to create a photorealistic Web configurator for the 2008 Toyota Highlander. The Web configurator allows consumers to build vehicles online with lifelike detail.

RTT's configurator, developed in the RTT Film and Print department, allows users to view both the interior and exterior of the Highlander, showing all possible options and configurations. Unlike other virtual viewers, RTT's configurators are photorealistic, showing users exactly what their vehicle would look like down to the grain of the seat leather, while still allowing for real-time 360-degree navigation, giving users a view of the vehicle from any angle instantaneously.

"In building the Web site for the all-new Highlander, we needed to present six different models. CGI was the best way to accomplish our goal since we only had a handful of prototypes available," said Gregg Benkendorfer, national manager, media and digital marketing of Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc. "RTT was the right choice -- they have extensive automotive experience, work directly with CAD data, and have already delivered high quality 3D tours of our Tundra, RAV4, Camry and Yaris 2007 models earlier this year."

"We are honored and excited to work with Toyota again," said Jeroen Snepvangers, chief executive officer of RTT USA, Inc. "Working with TMS and its agency Saatchi & Saatchi LA gives RTT an opportunity to demonstrate the value, creativity and cost savings we can bring to Toyota."

To generate the photorealistic images, RTT directly converts CAD data into a reusable wireframe using their DeltaGen software. With this wireframe, RTT creates interior and exterior renderings that are the best in the industry -- so detailed that users can almost feel the texture of the fabric or leather upholstery, the glow of burled wood trim and even the detailed patterns of carbon fiber.

RTT also provides the partially-modeled 3D computer-generated background environment, which is set in San Francisco's Yerba Buena Gardens. The 2008 Toyota Highlander Web configurator can be viewed at http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/minisite/highlander/index.html
