OXFORD, England and MUNICH, Germany, -- New 3D CAD microsite adds capability to locate, view and download models by product type and manufacturer

RS Components [http://uk.rs-online.com/web ] (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc [http://www.electrocomponents.com ] (LSE:ECM), the world's leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products, has launched a new, dedicated 3D-CAD microsite [http://uk.rs-online.com/web/generalDisplay.html?id=e1_3D ], which gives customers faster, easier access to its extensive library of more than 30,000 3D CAD models from over 40 manufacturers, downloadable free-of-charge from the RS website.

The extra functionality provided via the new RS 3D CAD microsite enables users to search for the 3D CAD models by product category and by manufacturer, and incorporates a model viewer function, making it significantly easier and quicker for engineers to locate, view and download the appropriate model required for their design from a vast selection of components, including connectors, relays [http://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/relays ], switches [http://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/switches ] and semiconductors. The new look page also integrates the existing 3D CAD tutorial video, 3D CAD FAQs, and 3D CAD file format features.

The launch of the enhanced 3D CAD model search functionality on the RS website also marks a major milestone in the company's 3D CAD model programme, with more than 250,000 downloads recorded since the programme was introduced two years ago.

"The huge numbers of 3D CAD models downloaded from the RS website are a firm indication that engineers are increasingly making use of our free online tools to help accelerate the design process," said Mark Cundle, Head of Technical Marketing, RS Components. "The new 3D CAD microsite ensures an even faster, smoother experience when searching for these tools."

Access to the comprehensive 3D CAD model library from RS is also available via the ModelSource component library [http://www.tracepartsonline.net/(S(skyleq45idn4c1m5cwf22keo))/ws/designspark/index.aspx ] on DesignSpark, the RS online community for engineers.
