RIA's Cleaning & Restoration Magazine Wins Three Awards for Editorial & Design Excellence

Columbia, MD - Cleaning & Restoration(C&R) magazine, the monthly technical journal for The Restoration Industry Association (RIA, formerly the Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration), recently received three awards for editorial, design and overall magazine excellence in competitions sponsored by the Missouri School of Journalism and Communications Concepts. Both competitions are geared towards specialty and corporate communications publications.

C&R received a Bronze Magnum Opus Award from the Missouri School of Journalism for a commentary that appeared in the November 2007 issue on the value of a good name and the importance of protecting it. Other winners in the Magnum Opus competition included corporations such as the Walt Disney Company, Toyota and American Airlines.

The December 2007 issue of C&R received an Apex Award for Outstanding Design, recognizing the efforts of senior designer Susan Broam and the team at the Design Consultants firm.

"While the magazine content is important," said Editor-in-Chief Patricia Harman, "no one would read it if the design didn't catch their attention and pull them into the articles."

The magazine also won an Apex Award for Magazine and Journal Writing for the February 2007 issue of C&R on customer service. The Apex Awards competition encompassed approximately 4,500 entries from organizations across the country.

RIA's magazine has won 16 design and editorial awards over the past five years, and Harman credits much of its success to the efforts of the magazine's talented design, sales and editorial teams.

The Restoration Industry Association (formally the Association of Specialists in Cleaning & Restoration) has member firms worldwide. RIA provides industry leadership, supports science, and promotes best practices for cleaning and restoration. More information is available on the RIA website: www.restorationindustry.org.
