RIA Fall Conference Brings Cutting-Edge Building Science Knowledge to the Restoration Industry

Columbia, MD - The RIA Fall Conference, focusing on building science and its relationship to restoration and reconstruction, will be held on October 5-8 in Albuquerque, N.M., during the International Balloon Fiesta.

The conference includes sessions on evaluating building materials for restorability, the value of builder/damage repair contractor collaborations, damage evaluation and restoration of non-conditioned spaces, a mini-keynote on home performance contracting, a look at university studies related to industry issues, an update from Purdue University on it restoration program within the construction management department, and an opportunity to hear and learn from leading authorities in the realm of building and construction science.

"This is a unique opportunity for restoration contractors to learn from the leading experts in the areas of building science and construction," said RIA's Director of Training and Certification Cynthia Hereth, "and this is information that can't be found anywhere else in the industry."

A post-conference workshop by Barbara Manis, M.D. and Allan Burt of Building Health Sciences will review how to analyze the five stages of a critical incident management path: evaluation, assessment, communication, remediation, and clearance in addition to the incident "life cycle," with 10 distinct sequential stages common to the building and its occupants.

The session will also focus on hospitals, nursing homes, long-term care or convalescent facilities, assisted living and retirement home environments as untapped business markets which require health education and training for restoration professionals working in those environments.

Registration for the conference is $675 for RIA members and $875 for non-members, and includes the two-day conference, an exhibition featuring state-of-the-art products and services, meals and a trip to the world famous Balloon Fiesta.
