RIA Educator Sponsorships Assist in Pursuit of Robotics Careers

ANN ARBOR, Michigan - A new Educator Sponsorship program, an initiative spearheaded by the Robotic Industries Association (RIA) Membership Committee, has been launched. The sponsorship program assists robotics faculty and students pursuing careers in robotics, according to RIA, which is the trade association for the North American robotics industry.

The new program allows any RIA member to sponsor a teaching and training institution for an Educator Membership in RIA. Eligible institutions include vocational and technical institutes and both two- and four-year colleges offering a curriculum and path leading to hi-tech, well paying jobs in robotics or related automation technologies.

ABB Inc., a Platinum Supplier Member, is the first RIA member to take advantage of the new program. ABB sponsored Fox Valley Technical College (Appleton, WI) and Vincennes University (Vincennes, IN), both leading technical schools with strong robotics programs.

"Every day companies rely on the talents and knowledge of their highly-educated personnel. There is no better way for a company to invest in the next generation of robot and automation users then to sponsor an institution for RIA membership," said Joe Gemma of Stäubli Robotics, Chairman of the RIA Membership Committee.

Gemma continued, "A sponsoring company can embed itself within the labs and curriculum of an institution. Their support assists in training and preparing the workforce of tomorrow in careers in robotics. These students may one day go on to be employees of the sponsoring company or be in the position to specify their products in the future."

A company sponsorship is $350 per school and provides many benefits including company recognition on the Robotics Online website, participation in student research or development projects, and opportunities to present new technology and/or products in the classroom or provide seminars and recruitment days at the institution.

Institutions will benefit from an RIA membership sponsorship by having the opportunity to post content, recruit students and solicit R&D projects via Robotics Online, complimentary or discounted RIA conference registration for students and faculty, placement of graduates with RIA members and other members-only offerings.

In addition to its biennial trade show and conference (now known as Automate, previously known as the International Robots, Vision & Motion Control Show), RIA is best-known for developing the ANSI/RIA National Robot Safety Standard, serves as North America's representative to the International Federation of Robotics and is the only source of North American robot sales statistics. Robotics Online is the world's leading site for robotics information.
