REACH Expert Mark Blainey Joins Atrion International


Addition of REACH Authority Fortifies Atrion's Regulatory Expertise

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA, August 31, 2010 -- Atrion International (http://www.atrionintl.com/) announced today the appointment of REACH authority Mark Blainey to the position of Senior Regulatory Analyst. In this role Blainey will join Atrion's team of highly distinguished regulatory experts and will provide policy and technical expertise to ensure Atrion's solutions offer continuous compliance with dynamic REACH regulations.

Blainey has been involved in EU Chemicals legislation for over 13 years and is considered one of the foremost authorities on REACH legislation. He is widely published and his work experience includes the development of REACH from its inception to agreement, as well as the myriad of guidance documents, reviews of the REACH Annexes and contributions to the European Commission's CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) Regulation proposal.

Prior to joining Atrion, Blainey served as Director at the Policy Analysis and Chemical Evaluation (PACE) SPRL, a consultancy expert in EU chemical policy. He has held the positions of Policy Coordinator (REACH) and Policy Officer with the European Commission and has served as Senior Executive Officer and Her Majesties Inspector of Health and Safety at the Health and Safety Executive.

Blainey earned his BSc Biochemistry with toxicology from Surrey University and a Post Graduate diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from the Aston Business School. He also holds an MSc in Environmental Toxicology from the University of Central Lancashire.
