Press release date: February 26, 2008

NUREMBERG, Germany, Feb. 26 -- QNX Software Systems is mapping a new course in the area of 3D navigation, thanks to a new alliance with software company Nav N Go.

System designers seeking smooth, lightning-fast image rendering of streets, 3D cityscapes, or even a bird's eye view of roadways can now harness the software innovations of QNX and Nav N Go for the ultimate high-definition imaging solution. When used in tandem, the rich multimedia capabilities of QNX Aviage® middleware products, the fault-tolerant architecture of the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS, and the 3D map technology of the Nav N Go iGO8 software provide a fully integrated end-user navigation and entertainment experience.

The collaboration is ideally suited to the growing demand for detailed, yet easy-to-use navigation solutions for automotive infotainment systems, aftermarket navigation products, and portable devices that offer a mix of navigation and entertainment functions. QNX's innovative new human-machine interface (HMI) technology, based upon Adobe Flash Lite 3, can run jointly with the Nav N Go iGO My Way software, giving designers a rich set of options for displaying and overlaying maps and control buttons, playing MP3 files and other digital media, leveraging Flash games and content, and other functions.

Known for its precise and affordable digital maps, Nav N Go iGO8 (iGO My Way 8) covers more than 70 countries globally with navigable 2D and 3D maps. The Nav N Go iGO My Way 8 software solution offers automatic route planning; text-to-speech capability with directions for real city, street, and highway names; voice commands for over 30 different languages; and a rich point-of- interest (POI) database.

Besides offering the ultra-reliable QNX Neutrino RTOS and QNX Aviage® middleware, QNX Software Systems provides an array of innovative technologies for the in-car and portable device markets. These include instant-on technology for ultra-fast response, voice processing solutions for improving hands-free communication, and flexible graphics environments that allow developers to mix, match, and blend the most optimal user interface technologies, including OpenGL ES and Adobe Flash. In addition, the QNX Momentics® development suite provides standards-based development tools for accelerating the entire development cycle -- from board bring-up to performance optimization to tools that slim down the RAM and flash memory footprint, saving on total bill-of-material costs.

"As navigation systems become increasingly complex and multimodal to include compute-intensive functions such as 3D mapping, speech technologies, and connectivity to off-board services and devices, QNX is uniquely positioned to best meet these needs," said Andrew Poliak, automotive business development manager for QNX Software Systems. "Through this alliance, QNX and Nav N Go will leverage their individual strengths to cost effectively bring high-end form and function to next-generation navigation systems."

The solution currently runs on popular automotive and consumer-grade hardware platforms, including architectures from Freescale and Intel.

Visitors to Embedded World in Nuremberg can see the demonstration in the QNX stand (hall 11, stand 324) from February 26 to 28, 2008.
