Puritan Flocked Swabs Earn New Australian Patents

We're proud to announce that Puritan Medical Products has just been awarded two new Australian patents for our HydraFlock® and PurFlock Ultra® flocked swabs.

"The ongoing recognition of our innovative products and methods speaks to the resourcefulness of our research and development team," said Timothy Templet, Puritan's EVP of Global Sales. "To meet the ever-changing demands of our diverse customer base, we'll continue to invest in equipment and resources to support further innovation - helping to revolutionize care one patent at a time."

These device patents for the HydraFlock® swab (No. 2010341422) and PurFlock Ultra® swab (No. 2010341421) mark the seventh and eighth international patents Puritan has received for our line of flocked swabs. Previously, Puritan has been awarded method and device patents in the United States, Canada and Europe, with patents pending in Japan and China.

Our proprietary flocking process and its resulting microstructure allows for more efficient absorption and release of specimen, setting our flocked swabs apart from others on the market. Both swabs may be purchased on their own, or as part of their respective media transport systems.

The PurFlock Ultra® swab has been designed for use with our UniTranz-RT™ universal transport medium system for the collection and preservation of viruses, chlamydia, ureaplasma, and mycoplasma.

The HydraFlock® swab has been designed for use with our liquid amies bacterial transport system, which is used for the collection and preservation of clinically significant bacteria. Additionally, studies have shown that our HydraFlock® flocked swab is the most efficient swab on the market for the absorption and release of viable cells.
