Pulse Combustion Systems Adds Fluid Bed Capability to Pilot Dryer

Pulse Combustion Systems (PCS) announced today that it has developed, fabricated, and implemented a new Fluid Bed section for use in its Pilot Dryer. The Fluid Bed is mounted at the bottom center of the spray dry chamber, and is fitted with an under-bed air inlet system that is variable in pressure, and that can be used to either heat or cool the powder produced in the upper section of the drying chamber.
"We are very pleased to add this capability, which significantly expands the 'operating envelope' of our dryer," says David A. Mirko, VP of Process Development at PCS. "Our pulse dryer's residence time and drying time are quite short, and some products simply need more time," he continued. "The Fluid Bed gives us the ability to do this, and also to introduce other elements above the bed, such as flow agents or agglomeration aids. The first week of customer trials were very encouraging, and we are looking for additional opportunities."
