Press release date: March 29, 2007

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 29: Targeting the pernicious threats posed by the new generation of auto-run USB drives, Provilla, Inc., a leading provider of ultra-accurate, intelligent endpoint solutions for data leak prevention, today launched an informative webinar demonstrating the first effective way to prevent the loss of sensitive and confidential information through these attacks. The free webinar features Glen Kosaka, Provilla's vice president of marketing, and Benjamin Powell, a security architect from the financial services industry, defining this new threat and demonstrating how Provilla LeakProof(TM) stops it dead in its tracks before it can export critical data residing on corporate laptops and desktops.

The webinar, "Data Leak Prevention for New USB Threats," is available on-demand from the Provilla web site at provilla-inc.com . Also available is a white paper entitled "Big Risks in Small Packages: New Threats from USB Devices" available for download.

First highlighted in a proof-of-concept demonstration last year, the "Hacksaw" Trojan takes advantage of the ability to automatically run programs stored on a new generation of USB flash memory disk drives without user intervention. When such a flash drive containing the Hacksaw Trojan is inserted into a computer's USB port, the software automatically infects the computer and then surreptitiously sends all files on any inserted USB drive to a predetermined email account. Since this threat was first demonstrated, the number and use of such drives have grown significantly, with the parallel increase in the threat potential.

"Using readily available utility programs, these U3 flash drives can be easily modified to run virtually any software application when inserted into a USB port, making them an ideal launch pad for new data security threats. Provilla is the first to defend against this problem," said Benjamin Powell. "Through technology and social engineering, these devices make it fairly easy to penetrate corporate environments and gain access to confidential information, and should raise serious concerns for security administrators about preventing data leaks."

Provilla's efficient endpoint-based enforcement with patented DataDNA(TM) data leak prevention technology is the first effective defense against USB-initiated data leaks, detecting and stopping leaks of sensitive data at rest, in motion and in use by corporate desktops, branch offices and mobile workers. Provilla's technology is unique in its ability to intelligently enforce security policies by effectively blocking all exits regardless of attached device, communications channel or network protocol when systems are online or offline, and on corporate or public networks.

"The threat from U3 USB flash drives is just the latest in a long list of serious risks organizations are contending with as they seek to staunch the flow of confidential and other sensitive data from within, and Provilla LeakProof is the only solution offering protection against leaks of any mobile and distributed data any time, anywhere and in any language," said Glen Kosaka. "Our webinar will clearly demonstrate Provilla's effectiveness in combating the U3 USB drive threat and provide security administrators with the information they need to protect their endpoints."

Provilla's DLP technology intelligently blocks the transfer of confidential data through any network or I/O port. Comprehensive forensics and on-demand scanning of all confidential data throughout the organization provide powerful tools for addressing compliance regulations such as PCI, CA SB-1386, GLBA and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), enabling enterprises to determine if confidential, unencrypted data exists on laptops and desktops.
