A proposed new standard being developed by ASTM International Committee F18 on Electrical Protective Equipment for Workers will provide guidance to assist in the required testing of live-line tools. ASTM WK33590, Guide for In-Service Inspection, Maintenance and Electrical Testing of Insulating Tools will also contain failure requirements for testing live-line tools, which is key to any testing process. Primary users of proposed standard will be utility and electrical testing companies.

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., - A proposed new standard being developed by ASTM International Committee F18 on Electrical Protective Equipment for Workers will provide guidance to assist in the required testing of live-line tools. ASTM WK33590, Guide for In-Service Inspection, Maintenance and Electrical Testing of Insulating Tools (Fiberglass-Reinforced Plastic (FPR) and Wooden Live-Line Tools), is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee F18.35 on Tools and Equipment. "ASTM WK33590 will give guidance on the proper techniques and different methods of testing," says Michael Harbaugh, vice president, Protective Equipment Testing Laboratory, and an F18 member. "The proposed guide will also contain the failure requirements for testing live-line tools, which is a key to any testing process." Primary users of the proposed standard will be utility and electrical testing companies. All interested parties are invited to participate in the standards developing activities of F18.
