Press release date: March 13, 2008

MOORPARK, Calif. - Kavlico is an operation of Schneider Electric and a global business unit of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST). At the ConExpo/IFPE show, Kavlico will be featuring a host of pressure and level sensing devices specifically designed to tackle the European and US mandates for reduced engine emissions while balancing fuel economy and vehicle operating costs considerations.

Kavlico/CST sensors play a role in maximizing engine efficiency and are used to trigger vital diagnostic systems, helping reduce the potential for costly repairs. Sensors are found throughout the engine, transmission and emission after-treatment systems to help monitor the performance of the vehicle, including systems that contribute to emissions and fuel economy that ensure optimal operating performance - thereby maximizing operating profits.

Helping to control the regulated engine emissions is accomplished through the use of sophisticated systems that rely on Kavlico/CST sensors. CST's Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) pressure sensors are two among of a broad portfolio of cost-effective sensors that many in the diesel engine industry have and are integrating into their systems. New sensors are in continuous development and are currently being evaluated. One noteworthy device is Kavlico/CST's in-cylinder pressure sensor that will allow engine manufacturers a vast amount of control, translating into a generation of cleaner more fuel conscious vehicles.

Robust and highly reliable, these sensors utilize either ceramic capacitive or piezoresistive sense elements. Operating on a 5.0 Vdc power supply, the sensors provide a linear amplified output of 5.0 Vdc proportional to pressure. The sensors tolerate high vibration environments, and are temperature-compensated over their entire pressure and operating temperature range. Other features include excellent EMI/EMC performance and high accuracy in high common mode applications. A wide selection of operating pressures is available to fit a number of application-specific needs.
