Obama Nominates Ryan to Institute Board
President Barack Obama has announced his intent to nominate James "Tim" Ryan, CBO, to a key Administration post as a member of the National Institute of Building Sciences Board of Directors. Ryan was one of six intended appointees announced by the White House on July 21.
"These dedicated and accomplished individuals will be valued additions to my Administration as we tackle the important challenges facing America," said President Obama. "I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead."
Ryan currently serves as secretary of the National Institute of Building Sciences Board of Directors. A 21-member Board of Directors governs the Institute. The Board is composed of 15 members elected from either the public interest or industry categories and six members appointed by the President of the United States subject to the approval of the U.S. Senate.
A certified building official, Ryan was elected to the Board in 2006 as a local agency official, a non-presidential appointee in the public interest category. His current term ends December 31. He serves on both the Executive Committee and Strategic Plan Implementation Committee and chairs the Awards Committee. He also is a member of Institute's Building Seismic Safety Council Board of Direction.
Code administrator for the City of Overland Park, Kansas, Ryan has more than 30 years of experience in administration, enforcement and development of construction safety codes, construction management and methods. He was recently elected chair of a newly created Steering Committee for the state of Kansas tasked with creating a program to oversee the energy code provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
A voting member of the International Code Council, the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and the National Fire Protection Association, Ryan holds certifications in 15 separate certificates in various disciplines of codes administration and enforcement. He earned a bachelor's degree in construction management and technology from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.
