Pratt & Whitney GMS Life Limited Parts Receive VSTC Certificates from CAAC


ZHUHAI, China, Nov. 18, 2010 -- AIR SHOW CHINA --Pratt & Whitney announced today that it received Validation of Supplemental TypeCertificate(VSTC) approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for its Global Material Solution (GMS) life-limited parts for the CFM56-3 engine. This approval allows GMS parts to enter revenue service in China. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.

"The Pratt & Whitney GMS program offers competitive choices for airlines to reduce maintenance costs with technology from a respected OEM," said Deputy Director General of Airworthiness Department for the CAAC, Mr. Xu Chaoqun. He presented the VSTC certificates for GMS parts today to Pratt & Whitney President of Greater China Region, Aki Nakano and MaryAnne Cannon, Pratt & Whitney director of CFM56 Product Line Management at a ceremony at Air Show China.

Pratt & Whitney's Global Material Solutions was launched in February 2006. Pratt & Whitney received EASA approval of GMS life limited parts following the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) issuance of Supplemental Type Certificates in May 2008.
