Industry's First Self-Compensating Point-of-Load DC/DC Module Family that Needs No Digital Bus Communication

Cork, Ireland- Powervation Ltd (www.powervation.com), the pioneer in digital power IC solutions that deliver intelligent adaptive performance, increased system efficiency, and breakthrough design simplicity, today announced the CUI NSM2P digital point-of-load (POL) power module series has been awarded Electronic Products' 2012 Product of the Year award. The NSM2P modules is based on Powervation's PV3012 digital controller and is designed and manufactured by power supply and power module maker CUI, Inc. (http://www.cui.com/), a subsidiary of CUI Global, Inc. (NASDAQ: CUI). The NSM2P series is part of CUI's Novum® Advanced Power line, which focuses on the design and development of leading edge products for distributed power architecture applications.

The NSM2P series is the industry's first self-compensating POL DC/DC module family that needs no digital bus communication, yet provides the flexibility and configurability of digital power, as well as low component count and high reliability. Each module looks like an analog module to the board, but offers engineering configuration access to the PV3012 controller during development, thus allowing many of the benefits of a fully digital POL module during the design-in of the power solution. Additionally, up to 8 configurations can be stored in the module, allowing the same SKU to address multiple power rails through a single external resistor.

Each power module provides intelligent adaptive self-compensation through the use of Powervation's Auto-Control® technology. Automatically and dynamically balancing the trade-off between performance and system stability in real-time, Auto-Control compensates for changes in the converter's output impedance (e.g., component aging, manufacturing variances, and temperature) and wide variety of potential loads.

The PV3012 controller provides 0.5% set-point voltage regulation for the modules within the NSM2P series. All modules within the family support a wide input range of 4.5 V to 14 V, and provide an output of 0.6 V to 3.3 V. Three power levels are available: 12 A, 25 A, and 50 A.

"We are honored to have received this award from Electronics Products Magazine," said Matt McKenzie, President of CUI Inc. "Combining Powervation's Auto-Control technology with our unique "No-Bus" package creates a much more accessible platform for engineers looking to leverage the benefits of digital power in distributed bus architectures. This recognition is a testament to our talented design team and to our mission of producing leading edge power technologies and products through our Novum Advanced Power Division," McKenzie concluded.

Adds Powervation's CEO, Mike McAuliffe: "We congratulate CUI on this award for their impressive NSM2P digital power module. We are pleased to have a close design collaboration with CUI and this module is a great demonstration of the performance of PV3012 digital controller and the value of our unique adaptive compensation technology."

The 2012 Product of the Year Awards were announced in the January 2013 issue of Electronic Products. The selection is based on a significant advance in technology or its application, innovation in design, or gain in price/performance. 2012 marks the 37th annual Electronic Products' "Product of the Year" Awards, which recognizes the best products in the industry. The winning products appear on Electronic Products' website http://www2.electronicproducts.com/productyear.aspx.
