Positioned in Analyst Firm's Leaders Quadrant for Web Access Management

ARMONK, NY - 01 Nov 2007: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Gartner, Inc. has positioned IBM in the Leaders Quadrant in its new Magic Quadrant for Web Access Management. (1)

As defined by Gartner, Web Access Management refers to "access control engines that are designed to provide centralized authentication and authorization capabilities for Web-delivered applications."

In August, Gartner also positioned IBM in the Leaders Quadrant of its Magic Quadrant for User Provisioning (2). User provisioning is a subset of identity and access management that addresses an enterprise's need to create, modify, disable and delete user accounts and entitlements across an IT infrastructure comprised of technology from different vendors.

Application security is a key concern for senior executives that are looking to leverage technology to drive business innovation while maintaining sufficient controls to meet regulatory requirements. User provisioning and web access management are two critical elements of an enterprise Identity and Access Management (IAM) infrastructure required to meet those business challenges.

"IBM's identity management software, like Tivoli Identity Manager and Tivoli Federated Identity Manager, are key components of the industry's strongest security management portfolio," said Al Zollar, general manager, IBM Tivoli software. "These solutions allow customers to simplify and automate the management of user identities, access rights and privacy policies across the company. As significant enabler of a business' governance and risk management program, the software allows customers to control and track internal users, customers and partners with access to company data, helping to protect sensitive information while providing a foundation to support compliance."

As customers are transforming their businesses to be delivered on a service oriented architecture (SOA), the need to simplify business process integration with partners and suppliers becomes critical -- identity management with federation using open standards delivers the flexibility, agility and security for companies to simplify business process integration and create an identity aware Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). As these technologies become more mainstream, customers are looking for ways to provide secure access and consistent audit capabilities across all parts of their application infrastructure -- from web servers to mainframes.

IBM's Tivoli security software helps prevent unauthorized access and potential misuse of valuable customer, employee and business data, while helping to facilitate compliance with corporate security policy and regulatory requirements. It is part of IBM's portfolio of service management software which automates some of the most challenging processes associated with managing a complex IT environment such as managing storage devices and deploying new software releases and patches. Tivoli software helps customers fight rising IT costs, manage constant change and meet the demand to stay competitive.
