Press release date: June 12, 2012

Attended by over 140 engineers and scientists.

St. Petersburg, Florida - A recent Plasma-Therm advanced plasma processing workshop held in Tel Aviv, Israel, was attended by over 140 engineers and scientists from throughout the country's growing semiconductor technology sector. Twenty companies (ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500) and six world class universities participated in the full day of presentations focused on applying plasma etching and deposition to the fabrication of electronic, photonic, medical, and nanoscale devices and structures. Plasma-Therm, a leading semiconductor plasma processing equipment supplier, holds these workshops at centers of excellence throughout the world to promote a deeper understanding of fundamental and advanced technologies used in semiconductor, nanoscience, and material research and production.

The high value of the workshop was expressed by Dr. Nava Ariel-Sternberg, Managing Director for the Tel-Aviv University Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology: "The workshop enhanced our understanding of plasma processes, from basic terminology to advanced science with clear process tutorials. The practical information and thorough review of process parameters will be implemented in our systems. As a result of these presentations we have a better understanding of plasma reactors and it will serve us in planning our equipment purchases, installations, and maintenance."

Prof. Nir Tessler, Head of the Microelectronics and Nanoelectronic Centers at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology expanded on those thoughts, "The Plasma-Therm professionals provided an excellent workshop on plasma etching and PECVD. While the plasma etching discussion will be primarily important to our MEMS technology, the new insights given by the highly professional Plasma-Therm team will help us in providing solutions for a wide range of technologies as microfluidics, nano-photonics, sensing, nano-electronics, and MEMS. The up to date and focused information regarding process solutions and new trends were truly refreshing. This workshop has undoubtedly enhanced our micro and nano-fabrication capabilities and I am sure the entire Israeli micro-nano community shares my view."

"We are very privileged to attract premier audiences in settings where so much important research is being done" explains Dr. David Lishan, Plasma-Therm Principal Scientist and one of the instructors. "Providing plasma processing technology of immediate and relevant interest to leading researchers in a format facilitating participation and interaction is an important challenge. The enthusiasm of attendees and their hunger for this information resonates with our plans to continue sponsoring workshops throughout the world. Our representatives are an integral part of the success of these events. In this case, we want to acknowledge the outstanding support from PicoTech.
