Press release date: March 29, 2006

March 29, 2006 -Torrance, CA - Physical Optics Corporation (POC), an advanced technologies systems integrator for military, government, and commercial OEM applications, has received one of the U. S. Army's Ten Greatest Inventions for an EIC (Electronic Information Carrier). The EIC that POC developed is a dog tag-sized wireless personal information carrier system called the WPIC (pronounced "Y-Pick"). The prestigious award is the result of a small business innovative research program that awarded $100,000 to each of four companies to develop prototype EICs. The Department of Defense reviewed the designs in July, 2004 and Physical Optics Corporation was one of two companies that were given additional funding of $750,000 to continue development of the innovative data storage and retrieval device. The award-winning wireless personal information carrier system from POC is now available for military, government and commercial OEM customers. According to Major Timothy J. Rapp, U. S. Army's wireless EIC program manager since 2003, "The developers of this wireless device had extremely tough requirements to fulfill. We wanted a highly secure, standardized, wireless storage and retrieval system that would be compatible with our Battlefield Medical Information System - Telemedicine (BMIS-T) project (a speech-capable PDA) and would include visual input and a noise-cancelling microphone." He adds, "The EIC needs to be small, wireless and interoperable with universal, commercial interfaces such as USB ports in the event wireless connectivity is not available."

POC's WPIC contains up to 20 years of medical records, giving medical personnel instantaneous access to data without the need for physical contact. Advanced compression technology developed by POC is a critical element in the WPIC's ability to store, read and transmit medical files, images, including radiographic and ultrasound, and audio/video data without any perceptual loss of resolution. The records, including allergies, blood type, doctors' comments and A-V files, can be securely transmitted wirelessly up to 10 yards from the wounded soldier or patient.

The award-winning WPIC device is ideal for first responders, medical/hospital providers and a variety of wireless communication systems. POC's revolutionary technology can easily be extended to nonmedical and nonmilitary uses in a variety of tasks that utilize wireless encrypted data bases and require instantaneous access to the information.
