Press release date: September 13, 2013
Bensalem, PA – Phillips Corporation is hosting the first INTERNATIONAL MACHINING SKILLS EXCHANGE AND COMPETITION to enable economic and technology exchange between overseas and American companies, promote cooperation and enhance levels of technology and management.
The inaugural event is to be held 9/15-9/19 in Bensalem, PA and will be the first of many competition/technology exchanges that will take place every two years. This first competition will pit U.S. engineers against teams from China. Subsequently, the competition will travel to Shanghai, Mumbai, Johannesburg, Brussels, London and back to the US.
The goal of these competitions is to learn and share with others around the world the best practices that come to the forefront as a result of the exchange, and allow camaraderie and friendships to develop worldwide.
Each location will be dedicated to the exchange and competition but also to help a local manufacturer. Phillips Corporation is working together with other countries (starting with China) to develop this new approach for technology exchange and competition.
“We at Phillips Corporation are excited about the possibilities to create an interdependent community, using manufacturing technology competency development, resulting in vast improvements in the world’s standard of living,” said Fred Joseph, Phillips Corporation President AE Division.
“Best practices can allow many other benefits to be shared by all world-wide manufacturing, including producing more locally to save transportation costs and help to bolster the local economies,” added Joseph.
For this first event, a US Manufacturer whose identity will be revealed to competitors only at the time of the competition is looking for an enhanced approach to produce two of their products. Phillips Corporation will give each of the ten competing teams a design for each part. Teams will be judged on various areas such as but not limited to:
• Fixture design
• Tooling usage
The purpose is to evaluate each competing team’s capability and skills in both precision manufacturing and team management. When this inaugural competition is completed, the US manufacturer will be the owner of all processes and programs.
Other manufacturers and technology companies supporting this inaugural competition include Haas Automation, CNC Software, Inc. (Mastercam), The Sandvik Group, Verisurf Software, Inc., Mitee-Bite Products, LLC, Chick Workholding, Rey Trucks, Cimquest, Inc., and Prism Engineering. Coordination and sponsorship provided by those companies and Cross Cultural Exchange.
