Peter Y. Hess Honored as NACD 2008 Distributor of the Year


Peter Y. Hess, President of the John R. Hess & Co., Inc., Cranston, RI, was named the 2008 Distributor of the Year by the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD). Hess's two-year term as NACD's Chairman and CEO ends December 4 with the election of new officers.

The award, given annually for service to the chemical distribution industry and fellow NACD members, was presented to Hess in honor of his thirty plus years of involvement and volunteer service to NACD. He served on eight different business-oriented committees, chairing six of them, including the Insurance Committee, the Investment Committee, and the Risk Management Committee. He chaired the Responsible Distribution ProcessSM Committee from 1999 to 2001. In 2003 he started moving through the NACD officer positions, beginning as Treasurer, at which time he also served as Treasurer for the Chemical Educational Foundation (CEF). He has served as a CEF Trustee for the past four years.

Hess received the award today during the Opening Ceremonies of NACD's Annual Meeting, where he was commended for generating significant advancement of the vision and goals of the Association, focusing on advancing the positive image and recognition of NACD, the industry, and its members. Hess was recognized for his insightful and heartfelt leadership, credited for contributing to the Association's growth and excellence, especially for the continuous improvements called for in the NACD Responsible Distribution ProcessSM.

The award was presented by the 2007 Distributor of the Year recipient J. Michael Coates, Vice President of Operations at LCI, Ltd., in Jacksonville, FL, at NACD's 37th Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, AZ.
