People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), an audited designator and member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced the appointment of Gary Honold as regional director for the northwest region. Mr. Honold will focus on working with state and local authorities in his region to improve fire, building, and life safety. He will oversee the promotion of NFPA services and the adoption of NFPA codes and standards in nine states: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming.

A fire service veteran with more than 20 years of experience, Mr. Honold recently retired as captain of the Missoula Fire Department in Montana. He had also been serving as an NFPA public education advisor since the beginning of 2012.

Mr. Honold is a graduate of the South Carolina Fire Academy in Columbia, South Carolina, with supplemental training at the National Fire Academy in Emmetsville, Maryland. He is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) and an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
